Press Release: On the upcoming the two-day August 19 and 20th 2019 Aquaculture Conference workshop Guelph University IBPD International Aquaculture:

Dear Prospective Attendees and Stakeholders;

The logistics on the two-day Aquaculture workshop at Guelph University IBPD International Aquaculture scheduled for August 19 and 20th 2019 and weeklong Toronto, Canada Conference August 21 and 24th 2019 have been concluded.

The theme of the Conference is “Capacity Building; investing in aquaculture and aquaponics to build sustainable food safety”. This is a two-day workshop, weeklong conference structured format for the novices in aquaculture and/or aquaponics.

The workshop/Conference is intended to highlight and investigate the needs for certain requirements before initiating and operating an aquaculture farm.

In addition to Aquaculture training, we will be partnering with Batteries Expert on Renewable Energy concepts that will be centred on Solar; discussions on product knowledge on Solar technology.

Online Conference Registration: We have finalized the agenda and have posted the event to Eventbrite (https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/getting-started-in-aquaculture-and-aquaponics-tickets-58407614748). All registrations will be processed through this online site and 20 tickets are scheduled to go on sale on May 1, 2019. In order to prevent anyone who is not part of your group from booking this workshop, I have made the tickets “hidden”. You can find the tickets by clicking on the green button labelled “tickets” and then enter the access code “Nigeria”.

Workshop Structure:

Information is presented in a lecture format and includes a tour of the research facilities at the Alma Aquaculture Research Station and hands-on husbandry training. The workshop fee includes all lectures, a tour of the Research Station, coffee breaks and lunch.

 

Facility Tour:  See up close, a large-scale research farm raising rainbow trout, Arctic charr, lake whitefish and sturgeon. From water supplies to waste management systems, you’ll get a chance to view many of the bits and pieces discussed during the lecture sessions.

 

Hands-on Training: You will get the opportunity to learn how to net and handle fish, common procedures like weighing and grading, in addition to fish transportation. In the lab, we will review euthanasia options, anatomy and basic necropsy.

Conference Workshop Facilitators:

IBPD conference speakers

Steve Naylor: Graduating from the University of Guelph, Steve has worked in academia and the public sector having spent 20 years at the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. Now working for Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Steve continues to deliver aquaculture training and education to a variety of audiences.

 

Dr. Alexandra Reid: Before attending the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, Alex earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Biology at the University of British Columbia. She then completed a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Comparative Pathology (specializing in fish) at the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph. Alex now works as a veterinarian for the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

 

Dr. Marcia Chiasson: 

Earning both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree in Biology at the University of New Brunswick, Marcia then completed a Doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of Guelph where she trained in genetics and breeding. She worked in the private sector at the Center for Aquaculture Technologies Canada and in the public Sector the Ontario of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs before returning to the University of Guelph to manage the Alm Alma Aquaculture Research Station.
